01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Tucked just off the main thoroughfare along a street in Nishi-Azabu 2-chome, Bar Yoin / Awase shifts character between day and night. During lunch hours under the Awase banner, the kitchen turns out creative curries mixed from whole spices without premade roux. Rather than leaning purely on fiery heat, the blends gently draw out the natural character of their ingredients, with vegan options making occasional appearances on the menu.
The daytime appeal lies in building your plate from the day's curries. Beyond single orders, combining two or three varieties on a plate lets you experience contrasting profiles—from bright, tangy chicken and rich vegetable sauces to creamy, sweet coconut bases. Plates come with a choice of multigrain or turmeric rice, and adding soft-boiled spiced eggs or fresh coriander makes a satisfying enhancement. Lunch includes a drink, offering a relaxed close with options like Masudaen teas, Japanese black tea, or iced coffee.
As evening falls, the space transitions into Bar Yoin, centering on a calm counter arrangement. The drinks list ranges widely from Kyoto Dry Gin—scented with botanicals such as yuzu and sansho pepper—to cocktails, wine, and champagne, available at an unhurried pace until 3:00 the following morning. Whether dropping by for an aromatic spice lunch or an evening drink, the counter offers an easy, unpretentious welcome for solo guests and companions alike.
